The Surplus Line Association of California (SLA) said Les Ross has been named its new chairman.

Mr. Ross, executive vice president of Crump Insurance Services Inc., in San Francisco, assumed the chairmanship at SLA's recently held annual meeting.

He replaces John Edack who is senior executive vice president and chief regional officer of Arch Insurance Group who completes his one year term.

The association also named:

o Patrick Hanley vice chairman. He is president of Socius Insurance Services, Inc.

o Davis Moore secretary-treasurer. He is president of Worldwide Facilities, Inc.

The association also approved the appointment of former Insurance Commissioner Harry Low for a one year term as SLA mediator. The association said the election of a mediator is required by its Constitution to help solve disputes between the admitted insurance market and the nonadmitted insurance market.

The SLA is an organization of 4,350 California Surplus Line Broker licensees and serves as the official surplus line advisory organization to the California Department of Insurance under California law.
