XBRL International announced the appointment of Chethan Gorur, Trintech director of interactive data services, as XBRL International Standards Board (XSB) chairman designate.
Based in Laytonsville, Md. XBRL is a nonprofit consortium working to standardize electronic language for business reports.
Mr. Gorur's firm based in Addison, Texas produces software solutions for risk management, financial governance and compliance for commercial, financial, and healthcare markets.
XBRL said it is anticipated he will fully assume the role of chair at the end of March. Mr. Gorur succeeds John Turner, chief executive officer of CoreFiling, who is retiring after serving as chair for three terms.
"As the global adoption of XBRL accelerates, the charter of the XBRL Standards Board – which is defining, updating and maintaining XBRL technical specifications – takes increasing importance," said Mr. Gorur in a statement.
He added that he looks forward to "leading XSB with a collaborative and market-based approach."
Mr. Gorur will continue heading Trintech's product leadership, including being responsible for strategy, product marketing and development efforts for Trintech's Unity Xtensible Financial Reporting (XFR) solution, which includes embedded support for the report tagging and output of financial statements with XBRL.
Prior to his current role at Trintech, Mr. Gorur was a key member of the XBRL leadership team at Microsoft for more than five years, where he was instrumental in crafting and executing on the XBRL product strategy.
XBRL said he was a key contributor to Microsoft Investor Central, and led the Microsoft product team responsible for incubating a new SaaS-based XBRL product line. Mr. Gorur has held product leadership positions at i2 technologies, IBM, and One Network.
