The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents said it named Jon D. Spalding president of the association during a recent meeting of its board of directors earlier this month.
Mr. Spalding is president and chief executive officer of Spalding Insurance Agency, Inc. of Perry and East Lansing, Mich. He serves a term of one year.
In remarks following his inauguration in San Diego, Mr. Spalding said PIA provides crucial advocacy for all of its members to enhance their ability to succeed.
"Our association is in the forefront of the issues that affect us every day, representing our interests in Washington, D.C., and around the nation, we will continue to advocate to protect and defend our members and their livelihoods. In addition, we must develop innovative products and services that generate revenue for our members and affiliates–that's a win-win for all of us."
Also named to one year terms were:
o Brian T. Marino, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who was named president-elect. Mr. Marino is the President and owner of Family Insurance Services, Inc.
o Fred Thomas, of Stevensville, Mont., was named vice president and treasurer. He built, operated and owned a very successful independent insurance agency in the Bitterroot Valley, Mont., and served 16 years in the Montana Legislature, rising to Senate majority leader.
o Thomas C. Adderhold, of Duluth, Ga., was named secretary and assistant treasurer. He is the CEO and owner of Preferred Insurance Agency located in Duluth, and the president of Preferred Insurance Underwriters.
Kenneth R. Auerbach, Esq. of Eatontown, N.J., was named immediate past president. He and is a past president of the Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey and is managing director and general counsel of E & K Agency, Inc. of Eatontown.
The association also announced that Sheldon M. Palefsky, of Columbia Insurance Group, was named its 2009 Company Representative of the Year.
Mr. Palefsky is branch marketing manager for the Atlanta branch office of Columbia Insurance Group.
