The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers at its annual meeting in Colorado Springs, Colo., elected Wade Reece CIAB chairman for 2010, succeeding Markham McKnight.
Mr. Reece of Raleigh, N.C., is chairman and chief executive officer of BB&T Insurance Services Inc., and Mr. McKnight is president of BancorpSouth Insurance Services Inc.
The election took place during the general membership meeting held in conjunction with the CIAB's 96th annual Insurance Leadership Forum.
Mr. Reece also currently serves as chairman of AmRisc, LLP; American Coastal Insurance Company; CRC Insurance Services Inc.; McGriff, Seibels & Williams Inc.; and BB&T Insurance Services of California Inc.
After graduation from North Carolina State University in 1978, Mr. Reece joined the BB&T Management Development Program in Wilson, N.C., and worked on the banking side of BB&T as a city executive and area manager until 1990, when he became a manager of BB&T Insurance Services in Raleigh.
Mr. Reece is a member of the Departmental Advisory Board for Finance, Banking and Insurance Degreed Programs at Appalachian State University and serves on the Board of Trustees for the American Institute for CPCU and Insurance Institute of America, where he is on the Executive Committee.
As chairman of The Council, Mr. Reece leads a team of officers including Vice Chairman James R. Pender, honorary chairman of the board of Oswald Companies in Cleveland, Ohio, and chairman emeritus of Oswald, Trippe & Company in Florida; Treasurer David E. McGurn Jr., president, special marketing and international division, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Itasca, Ill; and Secretary Andrew Cassidy, executive vice president, Early, Cassidy & Schilling Inc., Rockville, Md.
