The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation said its Dec. 9, 2009 New York Division Gala will feature Tom Brokaw, NBC News special correspondent, as a speaker.
Held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, the event is being chaired by Pierre Ozendo, chief executive officer and chairman of Swiss Re America Corp.
Mr. Ozendo, in a statement, called Mr. Brokaw "one of the most trusted and respected figures in broadcast journalism" and said "IICF will honor Tom Brokaw's commitment to philanthropy with a grant to the Youth Program of the International Rescue Committee, where he serves on the board of overseers."
The proceeds from the event will provide grants to other children's charities in the New York tri-state area such as Boys Hope Girls Hope and the Starlight Children's Foundation.
"IICF pools the collective resources of the insurance industry to provide grants, volunteer service and leadership to our community," explained Michael P. Fujii, IICF Board Chair and CEO of Worldwide Insurance for Endurance Specialty Insurance.
"One of our grant focus areas provides help to children who are at risk. The proceeds from this dinner as well as our volunteer activities will enable us to improve the lives of many children throughout our community," noted Mr. Fujii.
