The private equity firm Aquiline Capital Partners LLC, headed by former Marsh & McLennan Companies Chief Executive Jeffrey Greenberg, has invested in TigerRisk Partners LLC.

In a statement, TigerRisk said the initial investment from Aquiline will support the company's growth in the United States and Europe.

Because both are private companies, a spokesman said they declined to reveal the size of the investment.

Based in Greenwich, Conn., TigerRisk is a reinsurance broker and risk and capital management advisor. TigerRisk was founded in 2008 by Jim Stanard, a founder and former chief executive officer of Renaissance Re; and Rod Fox, former CEO of the U.S. operations of Benfield.

Aquiline, a private equity firm, raised $1.1 billion in 2007 and sponsored the creation of Validus Holdings Ltd., a Bermuda-based catastrophe reinsurance company in 2005. In June, Aquiline purchased Hartford, Conn.-based Conning & Co., an insurance asset manager, from Swiss Re.
