Each year, millions enter fantasy football season with cautious optimism, competing with friends, family, and coworkers for bragging rights. There is a certain giddiness associated with playing imaginary coach or general manager, and that seems sufficient to compel people to shell out cold, hard cash to participate in any given league.
What could possibly put a damper on the experience? A twist of the knee, according to Tom Brady's fantasy owners last year. But what's a faux manager to do when his or her prized player suffers a season-ending injury? Well, fantasy football players can try something real: an insurance policy.
Enter Fantasy Sports Insurance (FSI). This sports disability coverage will protect a person's fantasy league investment from experiencing a season-changing loss as a result of an injury to a key player.
Once purchased, the policy enables fantasy owners to recoup the cost of the league investment and to forge ahead with the season. It can also quell some of the disappointment associated with losing top fantasy players.
A rated national insurer specializing in sports disability insurance for NFL, NHL, and NBA players and team owners writes the policy. The coverage is also protected by the insurance department in a player's state of residence. FSI is designed to offer reimbursement of all of expenditures associated with fielding a fantasy team. The player need only set the amount of insurance to purchase. Costs for coverage will vary, depending upon the amount selected. According to FSI, the total cost will be calculated at a 10-percent rate of the insured value, plus fees.
Expenses normally include the investment made to join a league, online statistical data services, periodicals, publications, and all other expenditures. FSI compiles an eligible player list of the top 50 pre-season ranked fantasy players. It generates the list by collecting pre-season rankings form the top fantasy sport platforms.
