California firefighters made headway on containing the worst of the wildfires in the state as the number of dwellings destroyed in the blaze remained unchanged at more than 60.
The Station Fire, the largest of the active wildfires in the state, is now 38 percent contained, and has burned 144,743 acres, according to the Insurance Information Network of California (IINC).
Yesterday the fire was reported as 22 percent contained and having burned 140,000 acres.
Firefighters are optimistic about making more progress on containing the fire, IINC communications specialist Pete Moraga said, as winds have not picked up. He warned, however, that it is a little hotter today than yesterday.
With no further official updates reported on structures burned, Mr. Moraga said yesterday's figure of 62 dwellings destroyed still applies. Yesterday, Mr. Moraga noted that "dwellings" is a vague term, and may include homes in addition to recreation cabins.
A second fire, the Oak Glen Fire in San Bernardino County, which was reported yesterday as 75 percent contained, is now 98 percent contained. It has burned 1,159 acres.
