ORLANDO, FLA.--Three organizations were honored today as winners in the third annual "National Underwriter Award For Excellence in Workers' Compensation Risk Management" program, sponsored by NCCI.
The awards were given out during the Workers' Compensation Educational Conference, as part of NU's National Trends program at the annual event.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide was cited as the award program's "2009 Champion"--represented by Stephen Truono, vice president for global risk management and insurance.
Two winners received an Honorable Mention--Snap-on Inc. (represented by Dan Kugler, the company's assistant treasurer, risk management) and INTEGRIS Health (represented by William R. Wandel, system vice president of risk management).
Profiles of the three winners appear in the Aug. 17 edition of NU, available online at www.property-casualty.com.
The three will also share the secrets of their success and discuss the general state of workers' comp during a panel discussion on Tuesday afternoon, with edited highlights appearing in the Oct. 19 edition of NU.
The trio will discuss their approach to loss control and safety, back-to-work programs, claims management, fraud prevention, insurer and broker relations, as well as how to secure senior management support while making sure everyone is on the same page across the organization.
The panel, moderated by NU Editor In Chief Sam Friedman, will also include Peter Burton, senior division executive for state relations at NCCI, which sponsored the award program. Mr. Burton will set the stage for the discussion by laying out some of the biggest challenges buyers face in workers' comp today.
