The Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. (RIMS) said it has formed a new committee designed to increase the society's profile in the standards and practices arena.
The committee, called the RIMS Standards and Practices Committee, initially is tasked with educating risk managers and organizations on various risk management standards, including ISO 31000 and Guide 73, RIMS said.
According to ISO, ISO 31000 "provides principles and generic guidelines on risk management."
Guide 73 contains vocabulary and guidelines for use in standards.
The committee will also work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on voluntary preparedness and business continuity, RIMS said.
Wayne L. Salen, member of RIMS board of directors and director of risk management at Labor Finders International Inc., will serve as the first board liaison for the committee, and Carol A. Fox, past chair of RIMS ERM Development Committee and senior director of risk management at Convergys Corporation, will chair the committee.
Manus C. O'Donnell, administrative vice president and director of corporate insurance and risk at M&T Bank, will be vice chair.

o Susan T. Barry, director of risk management at DRS Technologies Inc.
o Sandra J. Bodensteiner, claims manager at the City of St. Paul, Minn.
o Kristen Drobnis, senior vice president of risk management at MassDevelopment.
o Lois A. Gardiner, director of risk management at Canadian Pacific Railway.
o Yvette Ho Sang, risk management analyst at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE).
o Paul B. Piazza, risk manager at Honeywell International Inc.
o Nathan Bacchus, RIMS state and regulatory affairs associate.
