Chartis Inc., formerly American International Underwriters, said it has named George Stratts president and chief executive officer of its Global Marine and Energy Division.
The New York-based insurer said Mr. Stratts was previously executive vice president of Lexington Insurance Company, a Chartis company, and senior executive for Lexington's property division.
He joined Lexington in 1999 and became senior vice president of property for Lexington in 2003. In 2006, he was named executive vice president overseeing Lexington's property division. Previously, Mr. Stratts worked as an underwriter for the Chubb Corp.
In his new role, Mr. Stratts will oversee the global energy casualty, global energy property, oil rig and global marine product lines for Chartis.
The company said he will report to John Doyle, president and CEO of Chartis U.S., and Ralph Mucerino, chief operating officer of Chartis International and chairman of Chartis' Global Marine and Energy Division. Mr. Stratts also will serve as senior property executive of Chartis U.S., reporting to David Fields, senior vice president and chief reinsurance officer of Chartis.
Until earlier this month Chartis was American International Underwriters, a member of American International Group. The name change was made to effectively distance itself from the beleaguered parent corporation.
