Zurich in North America has released a free video to help risk managers prepare a business for a major storm less than two days away from impacting them.
The video, "Hurricane Preparedness–36 Hours Out," is designed to help Zurich customers and risk managers minimize damage from winds and rain associated with such storms.
It conveys strategies businesses can take before an event, when a front is 36 hours away, and after a storm hits. Zurich said the video outlines how a business can protect staff, protect buildings from the inside and out, and coordinate post storm activities.
Some specific tips outlined in the video include completing and documenting a response plan well ahead of time; keeping a supply of fuel, portable site lighting and water pumps on hand; and ensuring that proper communication devices such as two-way radios are available, as well as proper contact information.
The video also suggests proper examination of buildings, among other mitigation recommendations. Consulting engineering experts, inspecting building roofs and clearing drains are some specifics mentioned in the video.
"Zurich's risk engineers work directly with our customers to help them prepare their businesses long before you hear about an approaching hurricane," said Armand Fernandez, chief risk engineering officer for Zurich Services Corporation. "Our team of risk engineers created this video specifically for our customers to quickly share with them important steps they can take when a hurricane is on its way."
