The Arizona Captive Insurance Association (AzCIA), said Christopher S. Murray of Midwest Insurance Group, Inc., RRG, has been elected the group's new president for 2009-2010.

AzCIA, which selected new officers at its annual conference in Paradise Valley, Ariz., also elected Paul Deeley to its board of directors.

Mr. Deeley, of Albert Heeg Investment Management, had been serving on the board through an interim board appointment, replacing a board member who resigned during the year, AzCIA explained.

As a result of the election, Mr. Deeley will be serving on the board for another three-year term.

Other officers elected with Mr. Murray were:

o Vice president–Joel Chansky, Milliman, Inc.

o Treasurer–Joseph Pieksza, Saslow, Lufkin & Buggy, LLC

o Secretary–Marcia Philpott, SRP/Captive Risk Solutions, Ltd.

Also at the annual meeting, AzCIA's Crystal Cactus Award was presented to Charles R. Cohen, who served as Arizona's insurance director from 1998 to 2003 under two successive gubernatorial appointments.

AzCIA noted it was during Mr. Cohen's administration that Arizona's captive-enabling legislation was passed and a successful captive insurance program was established at the department.

Mr. Cohen is now a partner in the Barger & Wolen law firm's Phoenix office. He serves on the AzCIA board of directors, and chairs the association's Government Affairs Committee.
