Insurance fraud in California is getting more attention not only from the police departments, but also from specialized task forces. The more in-depth investigations only make those trying to get away with fraudulent claims look more foolish, as one couple in California found out.

Fresno residents Parmjit Kaur, and Amarjit Singh reported their big rig stolen to the local police department on Dec. 23, 2008. After filing the claim, the couple received not only the $40,000 in payouts, but also the attention of California's Auto Insurance Fraud Task Force. The investigation resulted in the arrests of both Kaur and Singh, after the task force found that their vehicle was never parked in the location from which police were told it was stolen.

After staging a theft, providing false information to police, and filing a fraudulent claim, Kaur and Singh were both charged with felony insurance fraud on June 5.
