Michael Morrissey will take over as head of the International Insurance Society and join the IIS board with eight other insurance executives following the group's meeting next week in Jordan, IIS announced.
Mr. Morrissey, formerly Firemark Investments chairman and chief executive officer, will succeed Patrick Kenny as IIS president and chief executive of the New York-based group.
New board members will be installed at the annual board meeting during the IIS 45th Annual Seminar June 7-10 at the Grand Hyatt in Amman, Jordan. Their appointments are effective Aug. 1.
IIS said the seminar is hosted by the Insurance Commission of Jordan under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah.
Joining the board are:
o Pilar Gonzalez deFrutos, president, Unespa, Spain.
o Denis Kessler, chairman and CEO, SCOR, France.
o David Long, president, Liberty Mutual International (Liberty Mutual Group), U.S.A.
o Michael Magsig, managing director, Korn/Ferry International, U.S.A.
o Jos? Manuel Mart?nez, chairman and CEO, Sistema MAPFRE, Spain.
o Stephen O'Hearn, partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, U.S.A.
o Catherine Smith, CEO, U.S. Retirement Services, ING Americas, U.S.A.
o Chai Sophonpanich, chairman and president, Bangkok Insurance Public Company, Ltd., Thailand.
Brian Duperreault, IIS chairman, said the new board members "reflect the diversity and reach of our organization and speak to the importance and relevance of the IIS as an international forum for insurance executives, and they will bring outstanding expertise and experience to the board."
IIS, a nonprofit founded in 1965, said it provides "a world forum for leading insurance executives, academics and others interested in insurance to share interests and ideas on timely global issues."
The organization counts itself the largest multinational organization of its kind, with almost 1,000 corporate and individual members from 92 countries.
