The nonprofit Public Entity Risk Institute said today it has launched a Web site to help small- and medium-size nonprofit organizations assess their insurance needs and submit requests for insurance quotes to participating insurers.
PERI, a research institute focused on support for risk management, said the site is titled InsuranceForMyNonprofit.org, and it includes:
o A free insurance needs self-assessment tool with basic guidance and suggestions based on responses.
o Free educational information about insurance, including material provided by the Nonprofit Risk Management Center.
o A process for submitting requests for insurance quotes to participating insurers.
o Access to detailed suggestions based on the user's self-assessment.
According to the site, information about state insurance departments, state liability laws and insurance basics, such as how to read an insurance policy and common liability policies, is available.
Educational information can be browsed without registration. Registration is free and provides access to the insurance needs self-assessment tool and basic guidance.
A five-year subscription to the site is available for a nominal fee of $25, PERI said. Subscribers receive a full report that includes more detailed suggestions generated by their responses to the exposure questionnaire.
They also can complete a supplemental questionnaire and request quotes for coverage from participating insurers. The first request for quote is included in the $25 subscription fee, and requests for quotes for additional lines of coverage cost $10 each, according to the Web site.
"InsuranceForMyNonprofit.org is a first-of-its-kind tool aiding nonprofit organizations as they research their insurance needs," explained Gerard Hoetmer, executive director of Fairfax, Va.-based PERI. "At times it can be difficult for small- and medium-size nonprofit organizations to determine the coverage needed and to find an insurer."
He noted that InsuranceForMyNonprofit.org helps solve this important issue by bringing together nonprofits and insurers to address the problems in one place.
