Alex Soto received the IIABA's Woodworth Memorial Award here last week for his years of service and contributions to the independent insurance agency system.
The award was presented during the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America's annual Legislative Conference and Convention.
"I'm humbled and grateful to all of you," said Mr. Soto in accepting the award.
Mr. Soto–president and chief executive officer of InSource, a Miami-based agency–served as IIABA's president from 2006-2007, and as past-president has continued to testify before Congress on the group's behalf. During his more than 30 years in the industry, Mr. Soto has also served as:
o President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dade County in 1980.
o Chair of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents in 1994-1995.
o Vice chair of the Florida Property Casualty Joint Underwriting Association in 1995-1996.
o Member of the Governor's Commission on the Florida Insurance Crisis in 1993, and on the Insurance Fraud Task Force in 1997.
o Chair of the IIABA Communications Committee, Trusted Choice Branding Task Force and other committees.
The IIABA also honored Rep. John Tanner, D-Tenn., with its "Legislator of the Year" Award.
IIABA President and CEO Robert Rusbuldt said that Rep. Tanner–a founding member of the Blue Dog Democrats, noted for their fiscal conservatism–is a former independent agent and the only member of Congress to contribute to InsurPac, the IIABA's political action committee.
