Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide Insurance announced today that it has created a free application for the Apple iPhone, titled Nationwide Mobile, to help process claims after an auto accident.
The company said the application is now available on the Apple App Store. Nationwide said the new app will help its customers find local resources, document the accident and submit claims information on the spot.
Nationwide said it worked with the Princeton, N.J.-based independent interactive marketing agency Rosetta to develop the application.
The new application, said Nationwide, will make it easy for users to contact local authorities and emergency services quickly following an accident, and it will help Nationwide customers contact local towing services, as well as Nationwide Blue RibbonSM Repair Service Facilities and Nationwide agents in the customer's area.
The insurer said its application
provides a simple interface for collecting and exchanging accident information all in one place. In addition to the other driver's insurance and contact information, users can also store photos of the accident taken with the iPhone's camera and automatically record the exact location of the accident using the iPhone's built-in GPS.
The carrier said that its policyholders will be able to start the claims process at the scene of the accident and share photos and other information that could help expedite matters. Users can let Nationwide know when they would prefer to have a call center representative follow up with them, the company said.
Further application features include a flashlight function and a tool to help non-customers locate a Nationwide agent in their area if they'd like to get a free auto insurance quote.
Susan McManus, Nationwide associate vice president of interactive marketing for Nationwide, said, "We plan to add more features [to the application] in the future."
The Nationwide Mobile application is available free from Apple's App Store on iPhone or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.
