The International Insurance Society Inc. in New York announced that Michael J. Morrissey has been named its new president and chief executive officer.
IIS said he will succeed Patrick W. Kenny in June when Mr. Kenny retires. Mr. Morrissey will be officially introduced at the IIS 45th Annual Seminar, June 7 to 10 at the Grand Hyatt in Amman, Jordan.
The meeting, IIS said, is hosted by the Insurance Commission of Jordan under the patronage of Queen Rania Al Abdullah.
Brian Duperreault, IIS chairman, said Mr. Morrissey's "experience in corporate financial management specializing in the insurance industry, combined with his global perspective, makes him uniquely poised to lead our organization during these extraordinary times."
He noted that under Mr. Kenny's leadership the IIS has seen significant growth in terms of global reach and relevance.
Prior to joining the IIS, Mr. Morrissey was chairman and chief executive officer of Firemark Investments. As a founder of Firemark, Mr. Morrissey was also the chief investment officer for the firm and portfolio manager of the Firemark Tiger Fund.
Mr. Morrissey has advised insurance company managements and served on several insurance company boards, as well as chairing the firm's fund boards. He currently is a member on the board of directors of Selective Insurance Group Inc. and CGA Group, Ltd.
Before establishing Firemark, Mr. Morrissey was president of Manhattan Life Insurance Co. and senior vice president of Crum & Forster, and held investment banking positions with DeanWitter & Co. and Kidder Peabody&Co.
