Andover, Mass.-based Weather Services International (WSI) announced the launch today of a risk management tool that predicts the total number and location of European windstorms for the upcoming season.
The firm said its WSI PreCat Forecast Europe was developed in response to demand from the reinsurance market and will deliver forecasts on the total number of windstorms during the approaching season and predictions on where storms will most likely impact Europe.
Ira Scharf, general manager of WSI's Energy and Risk Division, said the product will allow clients, “prior to the season, to tune their loss models and adjust for an expected number of storms and locales.”
WSI PreCat Forecast Europe is based on WSI technology that, according to Mr. Scharf, “outperformed NHC [National Hurricane Center] predictions during the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season.”
WSI said its new Forecast Europe is the only product of its kind, and working with the WSI LiveCat Forecast Europe, it completes a year-round cycle of information on European windstorm forecasting.
