The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America announced that “Freakonomics” author Stephen Dubner will address its annual National Legislative Conference and Convention in April.

Robert A. Rusbuldt, president and chief executive officer of the Alexandria, Va.-based association, said Mr. Dubner's “controversial, yet eye-opening” work 'Freakonomics' “will certainly enlighten our annual Legislative Conference & Convention.”

Mr. Dubner argues that economics is the study of incentives, or how people get what they want or need when others want or need the same thing.

He is scheduled to speak May 1 during the IIABA general session, which will also include a state of the association address by IIABA Chairman Brett Nilsson and an insurance carrier chief executive officers' panel moderated by Mr. Rusbuldt.

The IIABA National Legislative Conference will take place April 29-May 1 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington.

The conference organizers promise it will include issues briefing sessions; appearances by numerous high-profile speakers discussing important insurance and national issues confronting lawmakers as well as agents and brokers; and hundreds of meetings on Capitol Hill between association agents and brokers and their elected representatives in the Congress.
