John Leonard, the MEMIC Group's president and chief executive officer, has been elected 2009 chair of ACORD's board of directors, and David Findley was elected vice-chair, ACORD announced today.
The announcements were made by Gregory A. Maciag, president and CEO of Pearl River, N.Y.-based ACORD, the Agent-Company Organization for Research and Development that drafts and disseminates standard property-casualty insurance forms.
Mr. Leonard began with MEMIC in 1993 after a 27-year career with The Travelers, where he led the Commercial Lines Agency Marketing and Underwriting Division, the announcement said.
He is a former president of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF) and chairman of its Executive Committee. He also serves on the board of directors for the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) and is a member of the National Workers' Compensation Reinsurance Pool Board.
Currently, Mr. Leonard sits on the boards of directors of MEMIC, MEMIC Indemnity Company, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce and the Pine Tree Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He received the Distinguished Citizen Award presented by the Pine Tree Council in 2001, and in 2003 was inducted into the Maine Business Hall of Fame.
Mr. Findley served as the chief operations officer for property-casualty insurance operations at The Travelers. He joined The Travelers in 1968 as a commercial lines underwriter in Ottawa, Canada. In 1971, he transferred to New York City and later to the Hartford home office, said ACORD.
At the Hartford, he held several commercial lines positions in which he was responsible for a variety of accounting, policy and loss processing operations before being named senior vice president in 1998, the announcement noted. He is currently a board member of the Agents Council for Technology of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA).
In addition, ACORD members elected six new directors of the board: William A. Bloom, The Travelers; Andrew G. Cassidy, Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB); Alessandro Iuppa, Zurich; Jim Knight, Chubb and Son Insurance Company; Frank Liu, China Life Insurance Company Ltd.; and Brian O'Connell, the Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.
