Ian Parker, 43, of the United Kingdom, has been named chief executive officer of direct business for Zurich Financial Services Group for Europe General Insurance (EGI), the company said.
He had been interim head of the direct business in addition to his role as head of strategy for EGI for the last few months. Mr. Parker succeeds Theo Bouts, who was appointed chief operating officer for Zurich's Global Life segment in July 2008.
Mr. Parker, the company said, will be responsible for further evolving and implementing EGI's strategy and plan for Zurich's direct business in Europe. He continues to report to Annette Court, CEO Europe General Insurance.
The new CEO joined Zurich as head of strategy for EGI in 2008 from Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance. At Royal Bank of Scotland he was managing a general insurance joint venture with the Bank of China in Beijing. Prior to that he held various senior leadership roles and headed up both business and strategy units.
Before that he was a partner in a strategic management consultancy and also worked for Eagle Star in the direct business prior to the merger with Zurich.
