Insurance broker Marsh said it has named David L. Eslick as chairman of Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC, the broker's business unit that is aimed to serve small and emerging growth companies in the United States.
Mr. Eslick, with nearly 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, was most recently chairman, president and chief executive officer of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.-based insurance broker USI Holdings.
Mr. Eslick joined USI in San Francisco in 1997, serving as a senior vice president of sales. He became president and chief operating officer in 1999, and chairman, president and CEO in 2002. He began his insurance career with Ohio National Life in 1979, and held positions with Prudential Insurance and Acordia (now Wells Fargo Insurance) before joining USI.
"As we set our sights on growing Marsh & McLennan Agency, we need a strategic thinker with a track record of success in overseeing strong business expansion in our sector," said Joe McSweeny, president of Marsh's U.S./Canada division.
Mr. Eslick, he said, "brings the proven abilities not only to oversee a rapid business expansion in a difficult market environment but also to instill the fiscal discipline required to improve margins and strengthen profitability at the same time."
Mr. Eslick said he is "delighted to join the Marsh & McLennan Agency as it prepares to begin operations. The small and emerging growth sector represents one of the most dynamic growth opportunities for Marsh in the U.S."
He will join Jack Butcher, president and CEO of Marsh & McLennan Agency, in building the new unit.
In October, Marsh, a subsidiary of New York-based services company Marsh & McLennan, announced the establishment of Marsh & McLennan Agency. The agency will offer commercial property-casualty, directors and officers liability, surety, employee benefits, and personal lines products to customers through a dedicated sales and service force in retail locations across the United States.
Marsh & McLennan Agency will begin operating in the coming weeks in select cities across the United States.
