Insurance broker Brown & Brown ended 2008 by announcing two acquisitions, one in California and the other in New Jersey.

The Daytona Beach, Fla.-based broker said it acquired Baker, Thomsen Associates Insurance Services of Newport Beach, Calif., and Gallagher Associates Inc. of Blackwood, N.J. Terms of the deals were not released.

Gallagher Associates, with annualized revenues of approximately $2 million, focuses on property-casualty for individuals and businesses in the southern New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware regions.

The Gallagher Associates staff will continue to operate from their existing location as a freestanding Brown & Brown profit center.

The focus of Baker, Thomsen Associates Insurance Services, with annualized revenues of approximately $1.4 million, is employee benefits for medium and large sized businesses in Southern California and throughout the United States.

Kathleen A. Wittau, president of Baker, Thomsen and her staff will combine their agency operations with that of Brown & Brown's existing office in Orange, Calif., under the leadership of Tim Casey.
