Climate change, sustainability, and energy are the focus of a new Web site introduced in late November by Fireman's Fund Insurance Co.

The Fireman's Fund Knowledge Site (www.knowledge.firemansfund.com) was designed to present climate change and sustainability issues from different perspectives while focusing on proven solutions and concrete case studies.

The Web site is part of an initiative known as Allianz Knowledge (www.knowledge.allianz.com), started by Fireman's Fund parent company Allianz SE in 2005. "Fireman's Fund is pleased to partner with Allianz Knowledge to offer this Knowledge Site in the United States," says Greg Tacchetti, chief administrative officer of Fireman's Fund. "The Knowledge Site demonstrates our commitment to offering sustainable products, services, and solutions to reduce our carbon footprint and help our customers do the same."

Allianz is an advocate of social change and development, according to Tacchetti, and it believes opportunities for interactive networking offered by the Internet help provide knowledge and dialogue.

The Knowledge Site looks for best practices among nongovernmental organizations and other companies, drawing on collaboration and expertise from the finance, science, and political sectors. A network of leading partners, such as the World Wide Fund for Nature and the U.S. Green Building Council, adds a noncorporate perspective to the site.

Fireman's Fund offered its first green insurance for commercial buildings in 2006 and has continued to expand its green products and services across all lines of business, including real estate, hotels, restaurants, manufacturers, builder's risk, marine, homeowners, commercial auto, recycling debris after a loss, and green loss control.
