Ralph Mucerino, senior vice president of American International Group and president of AIG Global Marine and Energy, was named chief operating officer of American International Underwriters (AIU).
Mr. Mucerino has been with AIG since 1979 and has held numerous management positions of increasing responsibility over the years.
AIG also promoted other executives within AIU:
o Robert J. Thomas was named president of Commercial Lines Division. Mr. Thomas, a 30-year veteran of AIG, has spent extensive time overseas where he has held various executive positions with AIU.
o Julio Portalatin, senior vice president of AIG and president of AIG Europe, SA, as well as president of AIU's Continental European Region, has been given the additional post of chief executive officer, European Region. He has been with AIG since 1993 and has served in a number of executive positions within AIU.
o Andrew Baugh, vice president of AIG and managing director of AIG UK Ltd., as well as regional president of Foreign General's UK/Ireland division, has been appointed the additional post of CEO AIG UK Ltd. He has been with AIG for over 25 years and first joined AIU in 1983. He has held posts in New York, London and Paris.
Nicholas C. Walsh, president and CEO of AIU, said in a statement: “These leaders have all made considerable contributions to, and indelible marks on, the AIU organization throughout their respective tenures with the company. I continue to be impressed with the quality of the existing talent within the organization and look forward to working together with them in their new capacities as we continue to maintain a leading position on the global insurance markets.”
AIU is the international property-casualty insurance organization within AIG.
