Darius Grimes, of the Jacksonville, Fla.-based indoor environmental consulting firm SkyeTec, has been honored as a pioneer with a federal program that helps homeowners to strengthen houses against storm damage.
Mr. Grimes was given the 10-Year Legacy of Service Award for dedication to the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH).
FLASH is a Tallahassee, Fla.-based nonprofit that promotes awareness about strengthening homes and safeguarding families from natural disasters.
The organization said it has more than 100 partners ranging from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to State Farm Insurance Company, and is helping improve the quality of construction while insurance companies are rewarding those who make preventative changes.
FLASH Chief Executive Officer Leslie Chapman-Henderson called Mr. Grimes “a proven champion and key player in the disaster safety movement. He provides technical expertise to consumers, teaches classes for professionals, and is a key player in the development of sound public policy.”
“His successful efforts to reach out to experts across different industries and create consensus is helping our efforts to make America a more disaster resistant nation.”
