The American Institute of Marine Underwriters said Dennis Marvin, vice president of ocean marine, Max Specialty, was elected AIMU chairman at the group's annual meeting yesterday.
He succeeds Richard J. Decker, president of AIG Global Marine, who completed his two-year term as chairman.
Mr. Marvin becomes the 49th chairman since AIMU was established in 1898. AIMU provides educational programs to its members, serves as an advocate before international, federal and state governments, and acts as an information center for the U.S. ocean marine insurance industry.
Mr. Marvin has been in the marine insurance industry since 1976 and became vice president for ocean marine underwriting at Fireman's Fund Specialty in 1999.
The new chairman is a member of the Maritime Law Association, the National Cargo Bureau and the American Bureau of Shipping. He has served as chairman of AIMU's cargo committee and as the U.S. representative on the cargo committee of the International Union of Marine Insurers (IUMI).
