The listing was released by Boston, CDS Business Mapping, LLC an online hazard mapping concern, which ranked the top ten hail prone metro areas (population 50,000 plus).
CDS said its list is based on the RiskMeter Online's Hail Model, which predicts the frequency of hail storms for any location in the continental United States.
According to a new report released by the RiskMeter Online, the top nine hail prone metro-areas after Amarillo are:
Tulsa, Okla.; Wichita, Kan.; Dodge City, Kan.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Wichita Falls, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Denver; Kansas City, Mo; and Colorado Springs, Colo.
The firm said that in 2007 alone, there were over 12,000 hail storms in the United States. In noted statistics from Swiss Re, seven out of the top 20 most costly insurance losses of 2006 were hail related.
