The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc announced today that Robert Paiano has been named senior vice president and enterprise chief risk officer for the company.
Mr. Paiano, the firm said, will report to Lizabeth Zlatkus, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Hartford, Conn.-based company.
“We are operating in an unprecedented environment today, where effective risk management is crucial,” said a statement from Ms. Zlatkus.
Mr. Paiano, she said, “has the broad industry experience, risk management background and leadership necessary to fortify our risk management capabilities, particularly in these rapidly changing times.”
As enterprise chief risk officer, Mr. Paiano will be responsible for enterprise-wide risk management strategy and execution across the company, including the company's life, property and casualty and investment operations.
Mr. Paiano joined The Hartford in 1996 as senior vice president of corporate finance. He has held positions in capital management, corporate banking, treasury operations and investment management.
He most recently served as chief risk officer of the property casualty operations and oversaw catastrophe risk management and reinsurance where he led the development of the company's first catastrophe bond program.
Prior to joining The Hartford, Mr. Paiano held positions at American Express Co, Citicorp Inc, First Interstate Bancorp and ITT Residential Capital Corporation.
