Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. announced yesterday that it is among businesses given a top rating by an equal rights group for its treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers, and investors.
The firm said it received a 100 percent rating in the 2009 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. It was the first year MMC has achieved a top ranking.
The Corporate Equality Index is the Foundation's annual report card, rating employers on their treatment employees, consumers and investors who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, using a scale from 0 to 100 percent. The top-rated businesses are recognized on HRC's Best Places to Work list.
"We are honored to receive a perfect rating in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index," said a statement from Kathryn Komsa, Vice President of MMC Global Human Resources. "This recognition underscores MMC's commitment to being a diverse and inclusive organization."
