Paul Hertel & Company, an insurance unit of Beneficial Bank in Philadelphia, is celebrating its 100-year anniversary, the bank announced.
Paul Hertel, also in Philadelphia, is part of the bank's Beneficial Insurance Services that also includes CLA Insurance Agency, Newtown Square, Pa.
The bank noted that the Paul Hertel anniversary coincides with National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-11), and that the original founder's interest in fire prevention engineering played a crucial role in the development of the firm in 1908.
Mr. Hertel, the bank said, was a member of the first automatic sprinkler committee of the National Fire Protection Association and dedicated a large part of his time to this area.
Most of the Paul Hertel insurance firm's original clientele was secured by reducing fire insurance rates through the installation of sprinklers, the bank related.
In 1908, the firm utilized the slogan "Fire Prevention – Fire Protection – Fire Insurance" to spell out the three ways to fight fire.
The bank announced it will observe the anniversary this Saturday with a celebration event at Edgmont Fire Company, Edgmont, Pa.
