American National Insurance Company said it is returning employees to its home office in Galveston, Texas, after evacuating operations in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
The returning operations included three of its life company subsidiaries: Garden State Life Insurance Company, Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company, and American National Life Insurance Company of Texas.
American National said its property-casualty operations in Springfield, Mo., and Albany, N.Y., continued to operate despite the loss of headquarter operations. Home office operations were moved to League City, Texas, where computer and backup systems operations were housed, and San Antonio, Texas, offices. Affected operations were primarily in its life, annuity and health areas.
The company said the main office suffered minimal damage and the reopening was primarily dependent upon restoration of basic services such as power, gas and utilities.
Mail service has been disrupted and the company asked customers, policyholders, agents and business partners to contact its customer service areas if they have not received a response to any mailings in a reasonable amount of time, so the firm can "make alternate arrangements to process the requests."
The company has not yet released p-c loss figures. That end of the business consists of personal lines, agribusiness and targeted commercial exposures.
