Portland, Ore.-based Liberty Northwest, a Liberty Mutual Agency Markets regional company, announced that Julie A. Burnett has been appointed president and chief executive officer.

Ms. Burnett, the company said, will succeed Larry Becker, who has decided to retire.

The new CEO comes to Liberty Northwest from Seattle-based Safeco Corp., where her career included numerous executive capacities, including field operations, field sales and vice president of Safeco's Midwest Commercial Lines Division.

Scott Goodby, executive vice president, Agency Markets, and president, Regional Companies Group, said, “As Liberty Northwest moves toward exclusively offering commercial lines to its agents, Julie is the right leader to meet the company's growth and profitability goals, and will continue to build on the momentum and strong agency relationships that Liberty Northwest achieved under Larry Becker's leadership.”

Ms. Burnett said she is excited to join Liberty Northwest and looks forward “to working with this great team and with our independent agents to continue Liberty Northwest's success in our territory.”

Liberty Northwest Insurance Corp. is Oregon's largest private workers' compensation insurer.
