Louis Pietroluongo has been named as vice president, Business Relations for The Cambridge Group.
Mr. Pietroluongo had been with the New York State Insurance Department since 1998. He served in multiple roles during his time there, including deputy superintendent, first deputy superintendent, and acting superintendent. He created and implemented the New York State Insurance Department's Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan, which was used in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
He also served as a member of New York State's Disaster Preparedness Commission, Governor's Homeland Security Executive Council, and New York City's Office of Emergency Management Insurance Working Group. He represented the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and the New York State Insurance Department while serving as a member of the U.S. Treasury Department's Financial and Banking Information Infrastructure Committee. In this role he assisted the U.S. Treasury in developing its National Pandemic Flu Exercise of 2007, and was selected to present the insurance industry's preparedness findings at an International Pan Flu Symposium at the U.S. Treasury Department.
Prior to joining the Department of Insurance, Mr. Pietroluongo served 32 years with the New York City Police Department rising to the rank of deputy chief.
Barry Goldwater, Jr., founder of The Cambridge Group, said, "Because of Lou's Disaster Preparedness and Response plans, the citizens of New York City and the families of the 9/11 disaster were able to take a measure of comfort in the fact that the New York Department of Insurance was up to the task in the face of the worst act of terrorism this country has ever seen. It is this leadership, forward thinking, and steadfastness in the face of adversity, which led me to believe that Lou was the right person to lead our team in the future."
A spokesman for The Cambridge Group described it as an association formed to do government work, mainly in the area of insurance regulatory compliance. The association engages in lobbying and other government-related activities.
