Bermuda-based reinsurer Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, Ltd., said Frank D'Orazio has been named its new chief underwriting officer and David Bell its new chief operating and administrative officer. Both positions are new for the company, a spokeswoman said.

Mr. D'Orazio will be responsible for the company's casualty, professional lines, health care and property underwriting departments in Bermuda, Europe and Asia. He will also assist in developing and implementing strategic initiatives and expanding product capabilities for the company's Bermuda and international markets.

Mr. D'Orazio joined Allied World in 2003 as a vice president and managed the company's general casualty operations in Bermuda. In 2005, he assumed additional management responsibilities over the company's European general casualty operations in London and Dublin, and oversaw the creation of a U.S. general casualty market. Mr. D'Orazio assumed the role of senior advisor to the company's health care operations in late 2006.

As chief operating and administrative officer, Mr. Bell will plan and direct all aspects of the organization's operations and strategic processes, procedures and controls, the company said.

Mr. Bell was senior vice president, global product line manager, professional liability, prior to his appointment. He began working with Allied World in 2002 when he started the company's professional lines division after working for Chubb Insurance managing the professional lines operations in the Florida region.
