The Captive Insurance Companies Association said its one-day Fall Seminar Sept. 25 in Washington, D.C. will feature six sessions including case studies.
The educational and networking event "offers an efficient and effective way for captive and risk retention group professionals to stay connected and informed," said Dennis P. Harwick, CICA president.
He added, "We've created a well-balanced format of case studies and expert presentations that is ideal for brainstorming and exchanging ideas."
The program's sessions include:
o A talk by U.S. Rep Dennis Moore, D-Kan, sponsor of HR 5792, Increasing Insurance Coverage Options for Consumers Act of 2008, that would expand the Liability Risk Retention Act to let risk retention groups provide property insurance.
o Risk retention group case study–Dan Labrie, chief executive officer, Housing Authority Risk Retention Group, will discuss experiences and challenges the HAI Group has faced and what has made it one of the top RRGs in the industry.
o Captive case study–Larry Smith, vice president, corporate risk management, MedStar Health Inc., will discuss his role in the design, implementation and administration of MedStar Health's broad comprehensive risk management, self-insurance and commercial insurance program.
o Enterprise Risk Management And Captives–Barry Franklin, consulting actuary previously with Aon Global Risk Consulting, will discuss key aspects of ERM and the involvement of a captive from two different perspectives.
o Program Business And Use By Cell And Protected Cell Captives–will cover how the nonprofit sector is utilizing captives.
o Solvency II: Why Captives Need To Pay Attention–Tomas Wittbjer, global head of insurance, IKANO SA (IKEA), will discuss his search for a simplified approach for captives under the framework of the new solvency regime due for introduction by 2012.
For the first time since March 2003, the National Risk Retention Association's (NRRA) 2008 Annual Conference will be adjacent to a CICA meeting. NRRA's meeting, Sept. 22-24, immediately precedes CICA's Fall Seminar. NRRA's conference theme is Campaigning For Progress.
Both conferences will take place at the Renaissance M Street Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Registration for CICA's Fall Seminar is free to members, and nonmember rates range from $150-$350. The program includes breakfast and a networking luncheon. Registration is online at CICAworld.com or by calling CICA at 952-928-4655.
