Harleysville Insurance, based in Harleysville, Pa., said it has named Gilbert M. Benjamin as regional president of its Southeast operation.
Mr. Benjamin will be responsible for the underwriting, agency management and support functions throughout Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, the company said.
The Southeast operation is one of four locations Harleysville said it has set up to maintain the growth of its product sales and underwriting presence. The operation includes field underwriting offices in Atlanta, Ga.; Charlotte, N.C.; Greensboro, N.C.; and Nashville, Tenn.
The operation is based in Atlanta where Mr. Benjamin will work with his leadership team and the Southeast resident vice presidents.
Mr. Benjamin, the company said, was previously senior vice president at Wachovia Insurance Services, Atlanta. He also served as senior vice president of the Fireman's Fund's Southern states territory and vice president of St. Paul's Southeast region. He began his insurance career with Allstate in 1985.
