The 33rd Annual Florida Risk and Insurance Management Society Educational Conference will include climate change, the subprime mortgage crisis and technology among its discussion topics, RIMs said.
Scheduled July 29-Aug. 2, in Naples, Fla., the meeting is expected to attract more than 600 risk professionals.
Michael A. Benishek, RIMS Tampa Bay Chapter president and director of risk management and insurance at Pacific Tomato Growers, Ltd., said in a statement that the conference will feature numerous educational sessions dealing with risk management, including segments on litigation, safety, insurance, environmental and human resource issues.
The keynote speaker is Kevin M. Quinley, vice president of the Council on Litigation Management, on the topic "Trials and Tribulations: The Risk Manager's Role During Litigation."
Other seminar titles include "Climate Change and 'Going Green'–Risks and Solutions"; "How the Subprime Crisis Affects You, the Economy and Insurance Market"; "MySpace and Your Risk"; and "Undocumented Workers: New Immigrations Rules and Workers' Compensation."
The "Stump the Masters" panel, comprised of yet-to-be-stumped experts, will take on risk-related questions from the audience.
Panelists include Scott B. Clark, member of RIMS board of directors and risk and benefits officer at Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Richard L. Broderick Jr., director of risk management at Harris Corp.; Karen Temme, risk manager for the town of Palm Beach; Michael A. Benishek, director of risk management and insurance at Pacific Tomato Growers, Ltd. The session will be moderated by State of Florida Circuit Court Judge Amy Smith.
A fund-raising golf tournament will benefit Florida colleges and universities in their advancement of risk management courses and programs.
