Seattle-based Safeco Insurance Foundation announced it will be giving $20,000 in grants for flood relief services to American Red Cross chapters in Iowa.
Earlier this month the Red Cross announced that their Disaster Relief Fund had been exhausted.
Safeco's grant was not awarded because of a request. "We were just being a good corporate citizen, reaching out to those in need," said a company spokeswoman.
The grants will go to the areas most affected by the recent flooding: the Grant Wood Area Chapter in Cedar Rapids and the Central Iowa Chapter in Des Moines.
Both areas will receive $10,000 in funds to house displaced residents and eventually rebuild homes and businesses once floodwaters subside.
The foundation has also given $20,000 to the Red Cross chapter based in Indianapolis for disaster recovery in central and southern Indiana.
