Allstate Insurance Company said it has named Desir?e Rogers as president of social networking to oversee the building of a social network allowing middle-market consumers to connect with each other and share their experiences with financial products.

Allstate said that Ms. Rogers in her newly created position will be responsible for building a social network. The company said in a statement, "Social networks are a new approach to harness the collective experience of consumers through interactive communities, affinity groups and new external relationships."

Previously, Ms. Rogers was president of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas, now divisions of Integrys Energy Group. In that role, she launched "a range of strategic initiatives to improve customer service and integrate technology into company operations," Allstate said.

Ms. Rogers has also served as director of the Illinois Lottery, where she helped launch the multistate game Mega Millions.

Jim Hohmann, president and chief executive officer of Allstate Financial, said, "Desir?e's strong business acumen and demonstrated leadership abilities combined with her deep civic engagement position her as an ideal leader to accelerate Allstate's mission of helping working Americans address their growing financial needs. Our research shows that middle-market consumers need help planning for their retirement and are often overlooked by financial services companies."
