A subsidiary of Daytona, Fla.-based Brown & Brown Inc. insurance brokerage has acquired Dill, Joyce & Thresher and Edward J. Kernan & Co agencies, it was announced.

The firm, which did not disclose the purchase price, said Dill, Joyce & Thresher in Avon, Conn., and the Kernan Agency in Windsor, Con., have combined annualized revenues of approximately $4.6 million.

Brown & Brown said the acquired firms focus on employee benefits and property and casualty insurance services and products for individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations and schools in Connecticut and throughout mid-New England.

Bob Eilers and Paul Mikkelson, both principals of Dill, Joyce & Thresher, and David Peters, Kernan Agency president, as well as their associates will continue to operate from their existing location in Avon, Conn., as a freestanding Brown & Brown of Connecticut Inc. operation.

J. Scott Penny, regional executive vice president of Brown & Brown Inc., said in a statement, "We are very pleased to have these talented folks join us as we expand our New England presence."
