Three insurers made the list of the top 20 companies chosen by Working Mother magazine for "Best Company for Multicultural Women." The three companies were Allstate, Chubb and MetLife.
"We are pleased to be recognized as a company that has created an inclusive environment," Kathy Marvel, senior vice president, Chubb & Son, and chief diversity officer for the Warren, N.J.-based company, said in a statement. "Chubb's success rests on its ability to find new ways to further strengthen our culture of inclusion and to attract and retain the most talented and diverse group of employees to meet our customers' needs."
The company, which said it has received the honor for the second consecutive year, said that it has several corporate employee resource groups and local diversity groups at the company to help address the concerns of multicultural women.
Northbrook, Ill.-based Allstate was noted by the publication for being "on a mission to fill its ranks with talented multicultural women." One out of four women hired in 2006 were women of color. The company makes diversity education mandatory.
At MetLife, the company was noted for rolling out the welcome mat to 135 interns last summer through "INROADS," an organization that places minority youths in companies worldwide. Close to 90 multicultural interns have been hired by the New York-based company since it joined the program several years ago.
