Insurance companies with physical plants in China's earthquake area suffered a huge loss in personnel and property, according to Risk Management Solutions, citing a China Insurance Regulatory Commission announcement.

According to incomplete statistics cited by the Newark, Calif.-based RMS modeling firm, the authority said insurers sustained 28 collapsed buildings and 392 destroyed houses within 43 branches and 209 sub-branches.

Among 250 agents of insurance companies, there were 17 fatalities, 122 employees injured and 145 agents injured.

The authority said 14,629,000 RMB ($2.1 million in current exchange rates) has been paid by the insurance industry in China for quake claims, with 100,000 claims received, including 4,434 for deaths, 2,841 for injuries and 28,400 for collapsed houses.

Since Monday, the authority said there have been 164,236,000 RMB ($23.6 million) in donations–111,246,000 RMB ($15.9 million) from companies and 52,990,000 RMB ($7.6 million) from their employees.
