Aon Re Global, a unit of Chicago-based insurance broker Aon Corp. based in Chicago, announced that Alfonso Valera has been named chief executive officer of Aon Re Iberia in Madrid. The appointment takes effect May 1.
He takes over the role from Javier Esteban, who will continue to work with Aon Re EMEA (Europe-Middle East Africa) in a senior advisor position.
Mr. Valera was general manager of Aon Re Iberia since 2005 and has served in several leadership positions in Aon Re over the past 17 years, including director of the facultative division. He spent five years working as a senior broker in London.
Richard Posgate, president and chief executive officer of Aon Re EMEA, said, "I would like to thank Javier Esteban for 40 years of outstanding service, which has built Aon Re Global into the successful Iberian reinsurance and broking operations that we see today.
