The New York State Insurance Department's Web site, which won the 2002 "Best of the Web" award from the Rockefeller Institute of Government, has been redesigned with an eye toward ease of use and greater accessibility.

According to the department, the Web site now breaks out information for the three groups that most frequently visit the site: producers, insurers and consumers.

The site features new home page columns and a site map for easier navigation, as well as visual enhancements--including improved screen contrast--for enhanced readability, the department said.

Andy Mais, spokesman for the department, said the actual information on the Web site has remained essentially the same, and the improvements have centered on increasing accessibility to that information.

One content change, Mr. Mais said, is a portal application for disaster preparedness, where industry members are required to register their disaster and business continuity plans with the department.

Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo said, "As with most organizations, our Web site has become a primary point of contact, and we felt it was time to improve an already excellent resource. Industry, consumers--including seniors--and anyone with insurance questions will find a wealth of resources conveniently at hand."
