American International Group Inc. (AIG) has named several executives to positions within the new AIG Commercial Insurance Group, formerly known as the Domestic Brokerage group, part of its reorganization of the newly created AIG Property Casualty Group, the New York-based insurer said.

Michael W. Smith was named president of AIG Executive Liability, reporting to John Q. Doyle, executive vice president of the AIG Property Casualty Group and president of AIG Commercial Insurance Group.

Mr. Smith was formerly president of AIG Financial Lines Claims. He joined AIG in 1996 as division counsel in AIG Executive Liability's Professional Liability division.

Louis P. Iglesias was named chairman and chief executive officer of AIG Risk Management Group, also reporting to Mr. Doyle. Under Mr. Iglesias, AIG Risk Management Group will now include AIG Specialty Workers' Compensation, which serves small- and midmarket-size businesses and was formerly a division of AIG's American Home Assurance Company.

Russell Johnston was named president of AIG Risk Management and will continue to report to Mr. Iglesias. Since 1990, Mr. Johnston has held increasingly senior positions in AIG Risk Management, including division president of National Accounts and president of Domestic Risk Management.

Douglas M. Worman, Domestic Brokerage Group Zonal Executive for the greater New York region, has been appointed president of the newly named AIG Excess Casualty Group, combining the existing operations of AIG Excess Casualty, which provides commercial umbrella and excess casualty liability insurance, and AIG Warranty. He will also report to Mr. Doyle.

John O'Brien, chief operating officer and executive vice president of AIG Environmental, was named president of AIG Environmental.

He will continue to report to Joseph Boren, chairman and CEO of AIG Environmental.

Susan M. Clarke was named executive vice president and COO of AIG Domestic Accident and Health, reporting to Steve Gold, president and CEO of AIG Domestic Accident & Health.

The company also announced yesterday the retirement of Robert M. Sandler, executive vice president, Domestic Personal Lines, after 40 years of service.

He will be replaced by Kevin H. Kelley, currently chairman and CEO of Lexington Insurance Company. He is also executive vice president of AIG Property Casualty Group, reporting to Kristian P. Moor, president and CEO of the AIG Property Casualty Group.
