Bermuda-based property-casualty insurer Ironshore Inc., which started up last year, announced today that it is expanding into the health care liability sector.

The company said it is launching IronHealth, under the direction of Matt Dolan as president with Josh Stein as chief underwriting officer, Randy Oates as chief operating officer and Tammi Dulberger as chief actuary.

The IronHealth team most recently ran OneBeacon Professional Partners, which they formed in 2002. The business was a specialty operation of OneBeacon, a subsidiary of White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd.

Based in Simsbury, Conn., IronHealth, will initially offer hospital professional liability, managed care errors and omissions liability, and long-term care professional liability, Ironshore said.

Bob Deutsch, chief executive officer of Ironshore, said in a statement that creation of IronHealth as a dedicated facility “is a logical extension of our commitment to meeting specialty insurance market needs.”

He said he had worked previously with the IronHealth management team for many years and, “in my opinion, this is the best health care team with a track record of solid underwriting results.”

Ironshore said Mr. Dolan will report to Greg Flood, president of IronPro.

The company said that IronHealth management before forming OneBeacon was together at Executive Risk, which was bought by the Chubb Corporation in 1999.

Mr. Dolan said that he and his colleagues in starting IronHealth “look forward to once again working with Bob Deutsch, as well as Greg Flood and many others, as we build IronHealth into a substantial, profitable division of Ironshore.”

He noted, “The health care industry is constantly evolving, and we are committed to its professional liability needs. We have assembled an extremely talented and experienced team to bring a very high level of service to brokers and clients alike.”

Ironshore was launched in 2007 with $1 billion in capital sponsored by global insurance broker New York-based Integro Ltd. Ironshore writes property catastrophe and property all-risk coverage for small to midsize commercial risks. In May 2007 it launched IronPro and in October of that year IronBuilt to serve the professional liability and construction markets.
