Fireman's Fund Insurance Company announced today that Michael LaRocco, a former president of Safeco, was named Fireman's president and chief executive officer.
Mr. LaRocco will start on March 17 at the Novato, Calif.-based company and will report to Chuck Kavitsky, president and chief executive officer of Allianz of America, parent of Fireman's Fund.
He will also serve on the International Executive Committee of Allianz SE.
Mr. LaRocco, 51, with nearly 30 years of insurance industry experience, last served as president and chief operating officer of Seattle-based Safeco. He was appointed to the position in 2006 and left later that year.
"We are delighted to welcome someone of Mike's experience and market standing to the Allianz Group," said Clement Booth, Allianz SE board member responsible for insurance in Anglo and NAFTA markets and for global lines.
"Mike has superb credentials and is a proven leader in the property and casualty insurance industry," said Mr. Kavitsky. "His background and experience make him an ideal fit."
Prior to Safeco, LaRocco spent eight years at Geico Corporation in senior management roles, including regional vice president for the Northeast region. His background also includes seven years tenure at Superior Insurance, where he headed underwriting operations and customer service. He began his insurance career at Progressive Corporation, working eight years in a variety of management roles.
